BCSM, established in 1983, is a non-profit cultural organization (Regd. Entity ID: B030432) representing the Bengali language speaking community (originally hailing from Indian Subcontinent) in the greater Milwaukee area. The Society works to keep the community spirit alive primarily through cultural events throughout the year linked to festivals and social occasions.
BCSM works with other non-profits in the area including food pantries and community kitchens as well. The society continues to grow steadily as more Bengalis move to Milwaukee from different parts of the United States and the world primarily from the Indian states of West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Tripura, Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh (eastern parts) and the country of Bangladesh to pursue their career who are professionally engaged in occupations like Professors, Physicians, Research Scientists, Technology professionals, Post Graduate students and Government officials etc., or successfully running their own businesses.
The society organizes five regular events during each year, starting in winter with Saraswati Puja, spring with Boishakhi adda focusing on Rabindra & Nazarul Jayanti, Annual Picnic during summer, Durga Puja and Bijoya during fall. From time to time the society also organizes other special events based on cultural needs collaborating with other communities and organizations.
